She is not crying because she is sad, she is crying because she is scared. Afraid of something that they have never seen or experience before, like a simple camera or a handphone, or things we take for granted daily.
I then asked the elders of the Ati Tribe why are the kids so afraid or shy? They told me it’s not normal for them to have foreign visitors here and I am the first photographer they ever met or seen.
It was an honour for me to be there, to be the first, having them trust this stranger in capturing moments of their lives and living among the Ati Tribe today.
